Grotto of the Madonnina
The fishermen's vote

Under the massif of Capo Caccia, a single piece of rock 186 meters high, we find the Grotta della Madonnina, this takes its name from the effigy of the Mary reproduced on a series of 6 ceramic tablets and affixed in a niche in the southern part of the massif. "Nostra Senyora del Fruntuni"  watches over the coral fishermen from the end of the 19th century, it was in fact the "corallini", as the fishermen from Torre del Greco were called, who placed the effigy of the Mary , protector not only of coral fishermen but of all those who work on the sea.  The Madonnina cave is situated at a depth between 16 and 12 metres, it is in fact a a large cavern with his big opening facing south, and this characteristic makes it particularly bright and full of life: inside you will be enchanted by the colors of the multicolored sponges and the walls covered with Parazoanthus axinellae, a polyp that lives in extensive colonies which, in the right conditions of light and current, populate the walls of the massifs and caves of this territory. During the journey to reach the cave, you may come across octopuses, moray eels, snappers and groupers, and with a little luck even some curious school of amberjacks.
